X3D ACADEMY

X3D Academy has effectively enhanced the skills of and graduated its first cohort of ICVFX course participants where they successfully completed the online program, culminating in the production of a short film titled "Sleeping Beauty," featuring a sole actor and a CGI dragon filmed together in real-time.

 

We collaborate with top tech artists and cinematographers from a premier Unreal Authorized Training Center, one of only five globally. This partnership allows course participants to not only experience but also create on-screen magic that captivates audiences.

X3D Academy is offering a 10-day In-Camera VFX course that is accessible to production crew based in Singapore.

 

We aim to enhance the skills of production crew
members, enabling them to master ICVFX and all things Virtual Production, using this exclusive curriculum meticulously crafted by the world's leading tech artists and cinematographers.

Filmmakers, producers, 3D artists, and animators are strongly encouraged to join our upcoming course cohorts.

ICVFX COURSE CURRICULUM

In this course, you will learn:

INTRO

The history of In-Camera VFX, on-set workflows, team roles, and LED Volume setup and safety.

 

HARDWARE & SOFTWARE

A holistic overview of ICVFX hardware, setup and workflow, automation techniques, and on-set communication with a guest instructor.

 

ART

The principles of virtual and practical set dressing, colour matching, and an intro to Photogrammetry, Nerf, and Gaussian Splatting.

 

LIGHTING

The importance of good lighting, principles for practical sets, and techniques for lighting cars, actors, and objects.

 

CAMERA

Camera setup and calibration, ARRI Colour Management, metadata management, lens calibration, and camera tracking with a guest instructor from ARRI.

 

ON-SET TRAINING

Tools for Directors and DOPs, on-set control and best practices.

 

PRESENTATION

Participants will also produce a virtual production short film to apply course learnings.

LEAD INSTRUCTOR

Ivan Tymoshenko

Technical Director of X3D Studio

Ivan Tymoshenko is a VFX Specialist with extensive experience in high-profile films. He is an experienced Technical Director who has been a key figure in all of X3D Studio’s VP projects.

 

As a Technical Director, he has pushed the boundaries of filmmaking through advanced technologies like Photogrammetry and Motion Capture. His roles have included XR LED Technical Director and BOLT Robot Lead Technician, where he managed everything from setup to strategic problem-solving. Proficient as a CG Generalist, Ivan excels in VFX and CGI using tools such as Unreal Engine® and Cinema 4D, while also possessing extensive hardware knowledge.

 

His notable contributions to projects like 20th Century Studio's 'The Creator', ‘Fistful of Vengeance’ on Netflix, ‘The Greatest Beer Run Ever’ on Apple TV+, and ‘Ms. Marvel’ on Disney+, showcases his ability to merge creativity with technology, aiming to inspire others in the filmmaking industry.

GUEST INSTRUCTOR

Robert Payton

Specialist & Consultant of ARRI

Robert Payton is a Director and Cinematographer with over 35 years of experience in television and advertising, shooting in more than 40 countries.

 

His clients include Unilever, PepsiCo, McDonalds, and Diaego. He spent 15 years in South Africa working on international productions, through Grinder Films and WeShootFood in Cape Town.

 

An early adopter of Virtual Production, for the last 2 years he has consulted for productions and ARRI on virtual production and assisted clients, agencies and DOPss in making the transition to filming in LED environments.

 

Robert has directed and shot over 40 hours of broadcast TV, and more than 100 commercials. His awards include Best Documentary at New York Film and TV Festival, Glenfiddich Best Food Program and The Royal Television Society’s Best Use of music award. Nominations for BTAA Cinematography, D&AD, and Kinsale Sharks.
